University of Leuven, Belgium

Implementing a University theme and central support.

Challenge

Implement a unified theme and provide central IT support

At the University of Leuven departments were responsible for the development of their own websites. Not unexpectedly, themes and levels of support varied. Both negatively effected the University brand. To help resolve these issues, the IT department wanted to join the University of Leuven’s many websites under one content management system (CMS), which they would manage. The CMS needed to provide:

  • Single sign-on access
  • Content collaboration and workflow
  • User management
  • Unified visual theme
  • Multi-site features
  • 3rd Party application integration

Solution

Apply Plone’s built in capabilities

Unlike other content management systems (CMS), the University of Leuven’s requirements are built in to Plone.

Out of the box, Plone provides customizable workflows, a through-the-web theme editor, ability to manage numerous subsites through one interface, and 3rd party integration capabilities for services like Single Sign On.

By leveraging these built-in functionalities, the University strengthened its brand, site security, and content management. Department sites share a University theme and landing pages display similar page layouts. Site security is managed through integration with the University’s central Identity and Access Management infrastructure (IAM). Coupled with Plone’s built in workflows, hundreds of content providers with varying permission levels can create and update content in their work areas without disrupting the theme or content in other work areas. Plone is also tied in to the University’s databases for directory information and publications.

Plone meets your needs out-of-the-box. Upgrade to Plone today!
