This is the equivalent of an estimated 350 years of effort. Plone is supported by more than 350 solution providers in more than 100 countries. The project has been actively developed since 2001, is available in more than 40 languages, and has the best security track record of any major CMS.

Plone owes its success and long term stability to the diverse and dedicated members of its community. In the Plone community you'll find expertise from content management to design to development, and a culture dedicated to sharing those skills and talents.

Most Secure CMS

It is widely accepted that Plone has the strongest security functionality of any open source CMS available today. Plone is inherently more secure than any PHP-based CMS, and this is well documented on numerous security-oriented web sites. Plone was launched in 2003 and in just over an eleven year operating period has logged fewer than 50 security vulnerabilities. Competing platforms like WordPress, Joomla and Drupal have each logged in excess of ten times that amount. This high security standard has garnered the attention of many security conscious organizations and government agencies including NASA and the FBI, who picked Plone for their Enterprise Web CMS solution.

The Plone CMS is one of the most secure website systems available. It is rare to have Common Vulnerability Exposures (CVE) published about Plone. A review of CVEs in the last 3 years for popular CMSs showed the following results with Plone being a clear winner with significantly fewer CVEs:

  • Plone: 40
  • Drupal: 409
  • WordPress: 596

Protected by a Foundation

Plone is governed by the Plone Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was formed in May 2004 to serve as a supporting organization for the CMS and its community. The Foundation provides support for development and marketing, and is modeled after similar ventures such as the Apache Software Foundation. It is the legal owner of the Plone codebase, trademarks, and domain names. The Foundation's goal is to ensure that Plone remains the premier open source content management system and that the community broadens its acceptance and visibility.
